Welcome £8m government funding extension for Stoelzle to support glass jobs in Knottingley.
After the devastating fire at Stoelzle’s glass factory in Knottingley in July, I wrote to the Department of Energy (DESNZ) to ask for a special extension on the funding they need for furnace modernisation, so that the factory wasn’t forced to close.
Good news – the Energy Minister has now confirmed the extension so Stoelzle will still get the £8 million it needs, helping secure jobs in Knottingley and the reopening of the factory after the fire.
This is really important news for local workers and jobs in Knottingley. I have been working with Stoelzle and unions and will continue to do so to support local jobs. Glass manufacturing has been a vital part of our local economy for generations and that’s why this support is so welcome now.
